Savannah Day 2

I would've come to Savannah just for these little beauties. Nobody told me that there are candy shops on every corner with delicious fresh and warm pralines, just waiting for me to buy them. I bought some with intentions of bringing them home to the kids but what was I thinking, they won't be fresh on Monday when they can eat them. So I had to eat them. Maybe I'll get some more tomorrow before I come home.....

This place is gorgeous. The maple trees covered in spanish moss are so pretty. I did learn today to "look but don't touch", apparently spanish moss is covered in chiggers.

Think ticks or lice, ewwwww.

So I've been looking and admiring and as much as I'd love to bring some home to MI you couldn't pay me to touch it. My friend Kelli had chiggers once, you should ask her about them, its a great story.

Jeremy had school Friday so I had the day to myself. Theres something about the freedom to go explore, or have lunch, or sit on a bench and read all by yourself that I wish I could enjoy more. Don't get me wrong I had a wonderful day but I kept feeling like I needed to be waiting for somebody or following a schedule. I went to Juliette Lowe's childhood home. She's the lady that started girl scouts. I didn't do the tour, just checked out the gift shop and house.
The picture below is the front of her house.

Below is one of the beautiful churches. There are so many of them. This is the church that is in the beginning of the Forrest Gump movie when the feather falls out of the sky. Also the tallest steeple in Savannah.

I also did a lot of window shopping. I don't think I bought a thing. boooo
The picture below was my favorite store. I spent at least a hour in here. There was so much to see. It was mostly kitchen gadgets but also a lot of different things. Strange things like every kind of salt and pepper shakers you could think of, change purses in the shapes of potato chip bags, ice cube trays in every shape you could think of... funny sayings on signs, napkins, plates, towels, purses, bags, etc.
The store was huge with high ceilings and gorgeous woodwork.

When Jeremy got home from school we headed to Bonaventure Cemetary. Apparently it is famous from the movie "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil"
I just love old cemeteries, Jeremy thought I was nuts to want to go there but he went.
I think once we were there he thought it was pretty cool. The picture below is a picture of one of the tombstones, it was really old. Doesn't it look like a face on it. The picture doesn't do it justice, it was kinda freaky. We walked around a little bit and then we took off to Tybee Island.

I didn't learn until after we left Tybee that this is where Miley filmed The Last Song. Apparently Sandra Bullock has a place out there too. It was a nice little tourist town.

I put my hands in the Atlantic Ocean, it was cold.

The water wasn't really that pretty, kinda brown. But it was windy and it did look pretty churned up. I do think that Lake Michigan is prettier.

After we left here Jeremy wanted to take me to a place called Huc a poos.

They had awesome pizza, the picture below is ONE piece. I had to cut it to eat it. $4 a slice and that slice is 1/4 of a pizza at least. It was very good. The bar was neat, it had stuff everywhere...old signs, dollar bills stapled to the ceiling, an old gas pump, recliners, guns, etc. I do compare it to Mahuffers in FL but a bit tamer. Let's just say I would take Jacob and Sarah to this place but I wouldn't allow them in Mahuffers. Huc A Poos was cleaner too, I wasn't afraid to sit down. I'm sure that is only because they serve food. I wouldn't touch anything made at Mahuffers.

So far this trip this is the only photo of the two of us. haha

Kinda hard when there's noone to take the photos.

Our last stop of the night was to Abe's on Lincoln. It is a little hole in the wall bar right across the street from our hotel. If I were Jeremy and I was alone here for a month, I'm pretty sure I would be hanging out here a lot. The bar maid was young and really nice. Her friend was in there with his dog who seemed to be a regular patron on the bar.

We're lame.

We've been back to the hotel by 9 each night and asleep by 10.

We're old.

Today is Saturday and I'll blog about today later but here's a little preview....we went on a trolley tour ride today (riding not walking) and now we're back in the hotel to "rest" cause we have a haunted city tour planned for tonight at 9.

Man I hope we can stay awake for it.

Day 1 Savannah

The first day started out very strange. I flew out from Detroit on Delta and there were only 10 of us on the plane. I've never been on a plane that wasn't full or almost full. There were 2 very loud very southern women on the flight that thought since there were only 1o of us that we should be the best of friends, including our flight attendant. They wanted to know where everyone was from, how old we were, what we did for a living, and pretty much anything else about us short of our social security numbers. The flight attendant loved us so much that the drinks were flowing, the FREE drinks, YES!! It was too much for me. LOL All I could think about was Mesha, my dear friend that would have DIED if she was in the middle of this new friendship. Thank God about halfway through the two southerners figured about that we weren't as into this friendship as they were and quit asking us questions. These two now have a trip to Italy planned for the spring of 2013. They did not know each other before this flight and they exchanged addresses, phone numbers and bra sizes. They were so into each other that one of them is meeting the other one this Saturday at "the Cathedral" to be her plus 1 at a wedding she's going to.....weird??? I realize I'm babbling but this was one of the weirdest situations I have ever been in, twilight zone.

not our hotel, just an awesome building

Once I got to Savannah (Jeremy picked me up...no taxi, yea) I had to find the hotel. UGH

I dropped him off at school and took off to find Bay St. It was actually pretty easy. I got my key changed into shorts and flip flops and went to lunch, yes by myself. That was tough. Luckily I had my book so I just read for a little bit. How nice, peace and quiet. After lunch I found my way down to the river and walked along the water. The weather was wonderful, 73.

I had to go get Jeremy from school, easy right? NOT SO MUCH. I had to get him at 4 and it takes 25 minutes to get there. I was worried about getting lost so I left at 3. I got lost. He left his phone in the car so I couldn't call him. Long story short the lady at the front desk at his school had to guide me to him and I showed up at 4:30. Needless to say Jeremy wasn't too pleased when I pulled up. Especially since today was the day they got out early and he had been waiting for me since 330. His fault for forgetting his phone, right?

None of this would be a big deal except we had dinner reservations at Paula Deen's restaurant, Lady and Sons, at 5. I think it must be hard to get to get reservations cause there were a lot of people standing around and it was kinda busy. With all that mess we did make it just a few minutes late and had a wonderful meal.
We're old...after dinner we came back to the hotel so Jeremy could do homework and I could sleep. I'm tired, we'll be sleeping by 9 tonight lol.

Here's to hoping I can paint the town all by myself tomorrow while he's at school. Also here's to hoping I remember to take some more photos. I feel kinda silly being by myself and whipping out my camera. Maybe I'll take some lovely self portraits, haha stay tuned!

Random

My favorite thing about today....Every day when I drop Sarah off at school she turns and waves, blows me a kiss, and gives me the sign for "I love you". This morning when I dropped Sarah off at school she turned around to wave, blow a kiss and give me the sign for "I love you" and realized she had mittens on. Instead of taking the mitten off, she folded down the top of the mitten to reveal her little fingers giving me the "I love you" sign. Then she folded the mitten back up over her fingers and skipped into school. Oh man I don't want this girl to grow up!

Chuck E

We braved Chuck E Cheese on a weekend for our favorite 5 year old.
Oh yes little Sarah had a birthday last week and Chuck's is where she wanted to spend it.
Nobody in the Couch family had ever been to Chuck's, CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?
Poor deprived children, I blame the fact that they are 1/2 Canadian.
Is there a Chuck's in Canada??

The birthday girl. I think she was in disbelieve that such a place existed.

They've never been to Disney either, geez!

Then theres my kids, spoiled rotten, loving Chuck's.
They'll probably be asking to go there on their 16th birthdays!!
I think their favorite is the simulator.
Sarah did mention that she enjoys Disney more than Chuck's, whew!
After all the mayhem and delicious pizza we count our tickets. Tickets that we used approx 75 tokens to win. We walked away with a 3 pack of sweet tarts, a sheet of stickers, 2 mini ninjas, and a top.
Winners!!

Off to Georgia

Jeremy's off to GA for four weeks for work. He's taking a class in Savannah.
We helped him pack and get ready last night.
We haven't been apart this long since his military days. Sarah is a bit worried about him and Jacob acts like its just another day.

We took these pictures last night while he was getting ready. Sarah had asked me for a picture for her room and we haven't taken any family pictures in awhile. They couldn't take a serious one until I let them take the funny one.

Sarah and I drove him to the airport this morning and she cried after we pulled away from the terminal. I think it will be hard on her to have him away this long. We plan to skype and hopefully they'll talk on the phone a lot. Jeremy sent me a text that said "here" just a little bit ago, he's a man of many words lol.

The countdown is on, he'll be back on Feb. 12th.

I better get a good Valentine's Day present out of this, lol!

This is what we did yesterday.....

Happy Birthday to my Favorite 1 year old!!
One of my best friends had her daughter Averie's birthday yesterday.
It was so cute.
The house was done up in the cupcake theme,
and of course little Averie matched with her cupcake outfit.
I truly believe she is thinking "MOM really with this bow"

She was ALL about her cake. Nobody had to show her what to do.....

Eyes closed in pure bliss!!

Shortly after this she decided to get rid of her bow. Her plan, to smear cake all over it so mom would take it off. She's such a smart girl.
Hey Mrs. Mesha, time for my bath.
Sweet baby had it everywhere....
Back to the party, hanging with her dad Dave.
Enjoying her new cup, yes Aunt Heather enjoying it before its been washed....ewwwww!
Quality time with Gigi!
It was a fun party.
Kelli amazes me, always pulls of the perfect party at the last minute.
I'm so lucky to have such a sweet baby and her family in my life.
I often wonder what would have happened if that engagement party wouldve been the goodbye party it was supposed to be.
Everything happens for a reason.....

Are you Watching?

I love this show. The writers are amazing. The twists and turns are crazy. It's making me nuts cause I can't figure out whats going to happen. I don't see where they're gonna go after this season. They showed the last episode in the first episode so supposedly you know how it ends, but geez how the heck do they get there.

I do think that Daniel is going to end up being a bad guy....he can't be that perfect right? There's something up with him I just can't put my finger on it.

Theres so much hate in Amanda, makes me feel tense watching it. My favorite character has to be the computer geeky guy. I don't find him attractive but oh so interesting.

He's so evil but I still like him. I do not like the party planner/friend girl that has that awful accent. I was really hoping she would disappear or end up drowning in the ocean.

My other favorite show this season is Once Upon a Time. I don't usually like this type of show but this one is good. I love to see which fairy tale character the show will be about. Again I can't imagine how this will end.

I'm intrigued by the Little Red Riding Hood character. At least thats who I think she is. I'm talking about the chick that works at the diner. She's always in skimpy clothes and generally a lot of red. I could be totally wrong but I am curious what her story will be.

Lastly, luckily I don't think my friend Mesha is watching either of the above shows. She has some sort of a curse on her that whatever shows she starts watching and LOVES they get cancelled.
What good shows are you watching this season?

And don't say The Bachelor!

Words with Friends

So I've been sucked in.
I swore I wouldn't do it.
April and Kelli were playing and so I couldn't stand it anymore.
I did it....I downloaded Words with Friends on my iphone.
I just downloaded it last night. I couldn't go to sleep. I kept worrying that someone had played and was waiting for me to respond.
My battery was dead halfway through the day today.
It's soooooo addicting.
Now don't get me wrong I totally suck at it, all I can come up with are three letter words worth like 10-15 points.
Keep in mind I have NEVER played a game of scrable in my life.
Like I said I suck, so if you need a boost in your confidence look me up and let's play.
buschnn is my name!!

Party pooper

So all the hype over the Lions going to the playoffs......
over!
They lost against the Saints.
No superbowl for us.

The Couch's came over to watch with us.

We were all really excited to see them win.

Except Sarah, she was too tired to worry about the Saints.

On a positive note, Jacob loves the Saints so maybe his team will make it to the Superbowl!

Easy Peasy

So Pinterest seems to be the new hot thing out there. I'm so super cool that I've been on Pinterest for awhile now and it seems like people I know are just now getting on the website and getting excited about it.
I love it for the crafts and the recipes. I also love all the obnoxious jokes and sayings. I've made several crafty things and a couple of the recipes. Mostly I pin stuff that I would like to buy or like someone to make FOR me.

However this weekend I decided to make the cresant roll recipe that I had just saw.

Basically you unwrap the cresant, lay out some ham or any other lunch meat you like and then pick a cheese that goes with it, roll it up, cook it for a bit and tada there you have it....lunch!

Sarah loved it, Jacob liked it.....so I guess I'll be making them again.
whew hard work, maybe next time I'll pick a recipe that has more than 3 ingredients,
Nah!

Better late then never

We're putting the camper in storage this weekend.

We probably shouldve done this in Sept or Oct but we procrastinated and never found anywhere to put it. Just so happens that Jeremy mentioned it to his barber and she has a barn, blah blah blah and thats where we're taking it on Saturday.

So today I went out to get the food and clothes that were left in it. I was having one of those moments and for a few minutes I thought about just staying out in it.

I would love to have my own "place" somewhere that is just mine. Somewhere that I can leave clothes on the floor and not feel guilty. Somewhere that I can not make the bed and noone would notice. I could scrap when I wanted and eat when/what I wanted and let my laundry pile up sky high and not wash it.

I've never been on my own. I went from living with my parents to living with Jeremy. I haven't been alone. Sure Jeremy went away for weeks while in the military but I always knew he would be back.

I'm thinking when the camper comes back this spring I'll spend some quality time it, just me myself and I. I might move out there for a weekend or two.

GO BLUE

(notice the remote on the floor, fallen out of his hand)
U of M played in the Sugar Bowl tonight.
Jeremy was really excited to watch it.
He invited Dan and Ben Harms over to watch it with Jacob and himself.
It's a good thing they left at halftime because Jeremy needed some peace and quiet to enjoy the game. As for me, well I'm tired so I'm off to bed, at the end of 3 the Wolverines are winning. I guess I'll have to ask Jeremy who won in the morning.

Somebody is turning 1

Oh yes she is,
turning one already!
I can't take it, she is supposed to stay a baby!
I imagine she had quite the birthday bow on today.....
or at least she better have one on.
Maybe her momma will blog with some precious 1st birthday photos....
She'll be moving to the big girl room at day care soon.
I can't wait!
I can't wait to see her cute little face sitting at the table everyday.
I'll be sneaking her m&ms so that we can become better friends...
Happy Birthday Averie!
Mrs Nicole loves you even though I'm not your favorite person.

Snow

I think it might be time to move.
Everyone's been complaining that there hasn't been any snow. Especially with Christmas, even those that don't love snow were hoping for some of the white stuff.
Not me.
I still think it's gorgeous, I still love to watch it fall.
But the cold, and the shoveling and scraping, what a big pain in the ass.
I'm always the one hoping for snow.
I'm the one a lot of people think of when it gets cold and snows.
Don't get me wrong I still hate the heat but this 25 degree stuff can kiss my rear end.
Nicole doesn't want snow this year, she would like to have 60 degree temps year round.
I'm thinking Tennessee or maybe Northern Fl where we used to live.
Honestly I'm hoping this feeling will pass, I really don't want to become one of those annoying Michiganders that complain all winter cause it's cold and snowing.....
HELLO, WE LIVE IN MI!

January 1

Started the New Year out on a very low key quiet day. I slept till almost noon!!! Crazy, but wonderful.
Jeremy cleaned out the gutters and made us a delicious lunch.
Jacob played xbox and then got invited for a sleep over so he took off at about 330 and we haven't seen or heard from him since.
Sarah took advantage of Jacob being gone and asked to have a friend over. Molly came over this evening and I became very thankful that we only had one daughter because two are VERY loud.
Jeremy and I finished the evening catching up on Once Upon a Time. Great tv show, if you're not watching you should be.
We're all off again tomorrow, maybe we'll venture out of the house...
